Diversity and Inclusion are at the forefront of today’s conversations regarding business culture. And they very well should be. D&I is critical to creating a healthy culture where employees feel a sense of belonging and purpose.
What the Marine Corps refers to as ‘esprit de corps’ – a feeling of pride, fellowship, and common loyalty shared by the members of a particular group. And when you achieve that – you create an innovative, agile, and effective business organization capable of navigating any crisis or obstacle.
I’ve never seen an organization achieve D&I to a greater extent than…….the U.S. Military. They simply call it by a different name – ‘UNITY.’
If you don’t believe me, simply pay a visit to one of the military service boot camps and you will see Americans of all races, creeds, colors, ethnicities, and sexual orientations.
What makes them unique is that they are all unified and moving in one direction to achieve one common goal, despite their vast differences.
Powerful beyond belief and humbled I was fortunate to see it first hand for 20 years.
